Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of 影追い (“Yasashii”), a personal, non-commercial Japanese graded-reading and shadowing study app available at yasashii.sirius.cool (the “Service”), operated by an individual (“we”, “us”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

The Service is a free, hobby project provided for personal, educational use to help people study Japanese through graded reading, listening, shadowing, and vocabulary practice. It is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, and may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued at any time without notice.

2. Accounts

Some features require signing in with Google. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your Google Account secure. You must provide accurate information and use the Service in compliance with applicable law. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law.
• Attempt to disrupt, attack, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
• Scrape, bulk-download, or redistribute content except as expressly permitted by its license.
• Submit harmful, abusive, infringing, or otherwise inappropriate content (for example, in community notes).

4. Content and intellectual property

Much of the study content (graded-reader stories, courses, grammar/vocabulary notes, and synthetic audio) is generated by AI and may contain errors or inaccuracies. It is provided for language-learning practice only and should not be relied upon as authoritative or for any important decision.

Some content is derived from openly-licensed sources (for example, the SNOW T15/T23 simplified-Japanese corpus, used under CC BY 4.0), and is subject to those licenses. Certain third-party copyrighted material (such as news articles) is restricted to the operator and is not made available to general users.

5. User submissions (community notes)

If you submit community notes, you grant us permission to store, moderate, and display them within the Service. Submissions are automatically moderated and may be hidden or removed at our discretion. Do not submit content you do not have the right to share, or that contains personal or harmful information.

6. AI features

AI-powered explanations and generated content are produced by automated language models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Verify anything important against an authoritative source. Do not submit sensitive personal information to AI features.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Because the Service is free, our total liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and request deletion of your account (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate access at any time, including for violation of these Terms.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
